I am however saying it is very off-putting. I know that there are books which follow Mortal Engines, but even on its own it was an unexpected and inventive book; one which I have already recommended to several young readers on the hunt for some thrilling adventures.

Reeve’s prose is well done and the concepts he utilized, while ridiculous, are fun and engaging.

Honestly, the reviews say there's a lot of sex and violence but it isn't that bad! Reeve will soon be the go-to man for imagination, excitement, and crowd-pleasing action. Even that could have been some sort of meta-commentary unto itself but the story is content with meaningless and often uninspired action sequences.

This, in addition to a mediocre plot, puts this book far down on my list. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. The roaming steampunk styled cities are interesting and the world is well realized.

While I’m clearly coming down hard on the book – I didn’t hate it.

I decided to read this book after the movie was announced and I was not disappointed in this decision. It’s an easy read while not falling victim of being too ‘childish’.

I think its testament to great writing that roaming predator cities devouring each other can be a believable plot but it works so well.
